Frank Gehry’s IAC building May 3, 2007

Posted by farshadf in NYC.

Say what you will about Frank Gehry’s IAC building along the West Side Highway, but at least we can all admit that it’s different, and, uh, has a lovely staircase. Now that the weird hunk of metal and glass is as much a part of the city as rats and cupcakes, it’s funny to look at what might have been. Vanity Fair‘s website has a great slideshow of a bunch of early Gehry sketches and models for the site, including the boring clunker above. Yeesh, Frank, at least work for that paycheck, right? Also of note: It’s fairly apparent that the first crop of sketches were doodled on a bar napkin after about 8 rounds of appletinis with Barry Diller.
