Colas such as Coke are a popular form of fuel for the sitting-in-front-of-a-computer-all-day set, but what exactly does the magical elixir do to our engines? You’ll probably want to take the straw out of your mouth before reading further.

In The First 10 minutes: 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. (100% of your recommended daily intake.) You don’t immediately vomit from the overwhelming sweetness because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor allowing you to keep it down.20 minutes: Your blood sugar spikes, causing an insulin burst. Your liver responds to this by turning any sugar it can get it’s hands on into fat. (There’s plenty of that at this particular moment)

It just gets better from there. Basically, drinking Coke to give yourself energy is like filling your car with some sort of acidic jet fuel. You might get an initial speed boost, but in the end your engine isn’t gonna last too long. I’ll stick to whisky while I’m blogging, thank you very much.
